Fazal
hit 78 chasing 80!!! |
Bons feelding good!
A fistful of
Jonties back up great bowling show!
Another fine fielding display
and some excellent bowling ended any Banchory hopes of a
result, Saturday. The Bons have been a revelation in the
field, this season, exemplified by Steve Stukins' run out
assist of Brett Howard.
Skipper Win won the toss,
again, and Banchory were soon in disarray with danger men Tim
Donald and Phil Potter back in the pavillion as Nawaz and the
in form Malik broke the back of the Banchory innings. The
Banchers fought back well to post some sort of target but
Graham Morrison swept up the tail again..
Chasing 80 to win, openers
Meres and Fazal were rarely in trouble against a demoralised
side but the manner of the run chase was erm, interesting to
say the least, as both batsmen set about the task in
radically different ways. Meres dropped anchor (unusually)
but, thankfully, Fazal picked off the bad balls with his usual
array of attacking shots.
Meres was on 2 when Fazal
brought up his 50 and by the time the scores had been tied
Jagga had 78 to his name! A big six, not by Meres, ended the
game to secure a fine win against traditionally awkward
opposition!

Win(ning) tactics!
Fielding
good, pinch hitter baaaad!
Andy
Win's reign as el Capitano has started brilliantly and his
tactical awareness and emphasis on good fielding habits is
bringing instant rewards. Increased fielding practice is
bringing out the best in a much younger side, exemplified by
Steve Stukins, fast becoming our Jonty Rhodes. However,
Skipper Win's continued use of Andy Meres (left) as a pinch
hitter will require some justification after his painfully
slow 7 not out against Banchory.
Meres, not a proper batsman in
the traditional sense, is opening the batting at the moment,
under orders to blast away and break the spirit of the opening
bowlers. Clearly, this hasn't been working and the skipper may
have to rethink this tactic, perhaps opening with a real
batsman.

Ellon:
As ever, they're going quite well but no-one is standing out
for them. The game's at Gordon Park which is good news for Fazal
who loves it there!
Bon Accord are a lot better than
last year so we should be too strong but Ellon might be good
enough for a draw if they can win the toss.
